Rainbow Spotting: Berlin U-Bahn Stations
I’m always fascinated by public transport in different cities, and subway stations are a particular favourite of mine. From the round bucket chairs in the metro stations in Paris, to the multi-tone orange rows of seats in New York, the perfect pastels all over Tokyo and the beautiful murals covering the underground in Stockholm…
Berlin is a new top contender for the best variety; a recent visit had me stopping in my tracks to photograph the tiles and different colour combinations. The soft pinks and greens, the bright yellow and brilliant turquoise - but most curiously, the very specific hotdog red of Frankfurter Allee station… I’m trying to work out if the tiles were chosen especially for the station, or if the resemblance to a frankfurter sausage is merely a funny coincidence?
