Finn Juhl House, Denmark

Finn Juhl’s House in Ordup, Denmark

My list of things to see and do in Sweden and Denmark is still extensive, even after almost 5 years living here. During the summer we finally ticked off a visit to Finn Juhl’s house in Ordrup, Denmark - just a little outside of Copenhagen, and part of the beautiful Ordrupgaard museum. Completed in 1942, the house is often considered one of the most successful functionalist single-family houses in Denmark. It’s always a treat to wander through a home that was purpose built, and filled with furniture and treasures particular to the architect/artist. Seeing the chairs and furniture pieces that Juhl designed over the years in situ, alongside commissioned artworks (such as the portrait of his second wife Hanne Wilhelm Hansen, painted in 1946 by Danish artist Vilhelm Lundstrom) gives so much colour and life to the space, to see how creatives lived and worked in their own home.

An excellent visit, and short day trip out of Copenhagen if you’re in the area!
