ITALO Maps & Icons

I recently had the pleasure of contributing a variety of maps and icons to the beautiful book, ITALO: Culture and Dining in Italian Australia by Cristian Bonetto.

ITALO is a gorgeous guide to Australia’s Italian communities and the huge impact of Italian migration on Australian life. The chapters are organised by state, focusing on various landmarks within major Australian cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide). ITALO provides readers with curated walking routes, historical context, interesting facts, and practical information to explore these cities. Italian-Australian travel writer Cristian Bonetto includes his favourite museums and attractions, eateries, shops and other cultural landmarks, as well as fun sections on specific Italian influences on areas like wine, language and coffee culture. With a stunning design that blends retro and contemporary, featuring illustrated maps and lavish photography, ITALO fully embodies la dolce vita. - Hardie Grant Explore

It was a true delight to get to research so many of the places featured in Cristian’s book, capturing these icons in illustrated form. I was especially pleased to work on the maps for Sydney and Haberfield/Five Dock, my former home, and each time I visit I always make sure to stop in to the excellent Pasticceria Papa for the ricotta cheesecake.

ITALO is out in the world from September 2026.
