Where to see cherry blossoms in Copenhagen

Here for a good time but definitely not a long time; making the most of sakura season is always a high priority for me each spring! Here’s a guide to some of the best places to see the cherry blossom trees around the city of Copenhagen. While there are many places all over Copenhagen to see the cherry blossoms, the most famous spots are at Bispebjerg Cemetery and Langelinie Park.
Symbolic of the cultural bond between Denmark and Japan, the cherry blossoms have really bloomed in popularity over the last two decades — following a donation in 2005 of 200 sakura trees from Japan (celebrating 200 years since the birth of Danish author Hans Christen Anderson) and recognising 50 years of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Japan. Planted in Langelinie Park, the success of the ‘pink tunnel’ led to the establishment of the annual Sakura Festival in 2008; so these days you can visit the Little Mermaid Statue, and then see the fluffy pink trees at the park. If you’ve still not had enough Hans Christen Anderson celebrations… you can also head over to Assistens Cemetery and visit the gravesite of the beloved author, and admire more cherry blossoms throughout the church yard.
These are the most popular places to spot the seas of pink and white this spring!
Bispebjerg Cemetery | Frederiksborgvej 125
Superkilen Park | Nørrebrogade 210
Assistens Cemetery | Kapelvej 2
Hostrups Have | 1954 Frederiksberg
Sønder Boulevard | Sønder Boulevard
King's Garden | Øster Voldgade 4A
Langelinie Park | Nordre Toldbod 29
You can also see more in different places dotted all over Copenhagen — from the botanical gardens to smaller reserves, and even inside Tivoli. Spring in Copenhagen is always a treat, but it’s extra special when the sakura trees are in full bloom. Enjoy!
